We are seeking a Director - Engineering/Construction to join our Engineering department. This position is Full-Time, scheduled 40 hours per week and is eligible for a comprehensive benefits package. Adventist Health Columbia Gorge is located in The Dalles, Oregon. We work, live, and play in the scenic Columbia River Gorge, Oregon.  Located 85 miles east of Portland in the majestic Columbia River Gorge, The Dalles features old-growth forests, rushing waterfalls, and year-round access to outdoor recreation, including downhill and cross-country skiing, world-class water sports, and miles of hiking and mountain biking trails. The area boasts award-winning wineries, and, most importantly, warm, friendly people.

Responsibilities

Directs the operational activities managing the function and effectiveness of all buildings, grounds, mechanical, electrical and other facility system for multiple sites.  Manages engineering, building construction, grounds, security and safety operations in alignment with the mission, values and objectives of the organization.

Qualifications

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, industrial safety/hygiene, construction management or related  field or equivalent in training or experience. 
    • Valid Oregon driver’s license.
    • Valid Healthcare Engineering Certification
  • Licensure/Certification:
    • N/A
  • Experience:
    • Minimum three years experience managing construction projects including planning, estimates, budgeting, contracting with vendors and establishing and meeting timelines. 
    • Minimum of five years experience related to area(s) of responsibility including knowledge of basic carpentry, electrical, plumbing, related building trades; HVAC systems and boilers; grounds maintenance practices; customer service techniques.  Two years supervisory experience in motivating, training, appraising, and directing the efforts of professional and technical staff in a maintenance related position.  Experience in a healthcare environment required. 
    • Working knowledge of emergency management, with knowledge of the Incident Command System preferred.
  • Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
    • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.  Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. 
    • Knowledge of current state, local, and federal standards, guidelines and regulations governing  healthcare facilities and related construction.
    • Experience with using everyday technology tools (e.g., email, spreadsheets, word processing, voicemail, internet/intranet) to access, create, organize and store job-related information.
