  • Overview

    Mid-Columbia Medical Center is now seeking a Clinical Lab Assistant to join our team. This position is for a CLA who will be doing homedraws at care facilities and patient homes as part of their duties.  

    This is a part-time core position (20 -35 hrs/wk) and is eligible for a comprehensive benefits package or a 13% pay differential.

    Must have a valid driver's license and good driving record.


    Under general supervision, is responsible for processing specimens for testing and sending out, running automated equipment, plating cultures and performs testing procedures as defined by State and Federal regulations. In addition, the Clinical Lab Assistant I performs the duties of a phlebotomist and is responsible for receiving orders, entering registrations and test orders into the Laboratory computer system, collecting specimens, assuring proper billing, filling out test request forms when required and providing appropriate customer information as needed.



    • High school diploma or equivalent and basic reading, writing and communications skills.
    • Current CPR certification.
    • Current valid applicable state driver’s license and a driving record that meets insurance carrier requirements


    • Six months phlebotomy experience and one year experience in related healthcare field
    • Experience with phlebotomy functions or successful completion of a hospital based phlebotomy course preferred.
    • Experience with drug screen specimen collection and basic specimen selection, handling, and storage activities, preferred.


    • Ability to determine/resolve procedural issues when current actions fall outside of departmental protocol.
    • Knowledge and proficiency in computers including Microsoft Office, email, internet/intranet
    • Ability to use independent decision-making and problem resolution skills.
    • Knowledge of phlebotomy functions and processes.
    • Basic medical terminology, preferred

    Applicants must have excellent phlebotomy skills plus the ability to perform multiple point of care tests simultaneously. The Clinical Lab Assistant uses the Epic computer system on a regular basis so must have basic computer skills and typing proficiency. Critical thinking, multitasking, and the ability to adapt to changing environments is essential as this position will rotate between clinic and hospital environments. Must be able to work alone. Experience with babies and children are needed, and experience with all ages preferred. CLA certification preferred.
