Overview

The MCMC Pathology Department is currently in search of a Pathology Assistant to join their team. 

 

This position is Casual and will work a variety of shifts to provide additional coverage (Hours are not guaranteed).  However, 13% is added to the base rate of pay for those with Casual status.  

 

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide basic clerical support to the Pathology Department.   (e.g. filing, processing the mail, distributing reports, answering the phones, patient follow-up, scheduling, taking meeting minutes and ordering and monitoring inventory of supplies.)
  • Accession histology and cytology specimens.
  • Tracking, billing, packaging for all specimen send outs.  
  • Provides backup assistance in gross examinations.
  • Provides backup assistance in Bone Marrow Bx’s. 
  • Process specimen send outs.
  • Coordinate tumor banking process while monitoring tissue processing requirements.
  • Retrieves slides to provide for Tumor Boards.
  • Enter patient and billing information into the Meditech computer systems and maintaining familiarity of regulations.
  • Tracks all outgoing and incoming consults, special stains, requests for blks/slides and additional metrics collection and reporting.
  • Collaborates with staff to establish procedures and office protocols.

Qualifications

 

Education:

  • High School graduate or equivalent.

Experience:

  • Two years of experience in a biology, medical office or related setting.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to exercise independent decision-making.
  • Ability to adapt to in dealing with change and while under stress.
  • Ability to demonstrate accuracy, neatness and thoroughness by the quality of work outcomes.
  • Knowledge in filing reports and basic clerical support functions.
  • Excellent computer skills are needed.
  • Ability to visually distinguish colors.
  • Basic knowledge of medicare billing protocol.
