Overview

Mid-Columbia Medical Center located in The Dalles, Oregon is now accepting applications for a Medical Scientist OR Medical Laboratory Technician to join the Laboratory Services department.

 

This is a Full Time position and is eligible for a comprehensive benefits and paid time off package. This is a night shift position, and eligible to recieve night shift differential pay.

The Gorge is renowned for world-class skiing, wind-surfing, hiking, biking, kayaking and fishing. This breathtaking scenery is home to many national and state parks and beautiful waterfalls. The Dalles is just a short 80 mile drive east of Portland.

This position will be scheduled 7 on/7 off /80 paid hours per pay period.

Responsibilities

Scientist:

Conduct routine and complex laboratory tests (for diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease), interpretation of test results, instrument operation, in addition to supporting clients as they access laboratory services. Oversees laboratory practices for given lab section such as, procedure documentation, quality assurance, quality control monitoring, instrument maintenance, competency and proficiency programs, staff training, and preparing for various certification, licensure, and accreditation processes. May over see MLT’s and Clinical Laboratory Assistants.

 

Technician:

Conduct routine and complex laboratory tests, interpretation of test results, instrument operation, in addition to supporting clients as they access laboratory services. Oversees laboratory practices for given lab section such as, procedure documentation, quality assurance, quality control monitoring, instrument maintenance, competency and proficiency programs, staff training, and preparing for various certification, licensure, and accreditation processes.

 

Qualifications

Scientist Requirments:

 

Minimum Education, Training & Experience (includes licenses or certifications):

 

Education:

  • A bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological or medical technology from an accredited institution is preferred.
  • Successful completion of the ASCP, AMT, AAB, or CLS accreditation program for medical technology.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to perform venipuncture and capillary collections appropriate for the age of the patient in a professional manner and with minimum discomfort.
  • Ability to perform standard laboratory analyses accurately according to published procedures and turnaround times.
  • Ability to validate results which includes, but is not limited to, recognizing questionable results, investigation of the cause(s) of questionable results and finally to take appropriate action regarding release of test result to customer
  • Ability to communicate written and verbal information to customers regarding appropriate specimen collection, transport, and test methodology. Able to interpret test results. Able to handle client service issues at all levels appropriately, courteously and effectively with a customer focus.
  • Ability to interpret, initiate, and comply with regulatory guidelines as required by regulatory agencies.
  • Ability to utilize critical thinking for problem solving.
  • Ability to multitask effectively and accurately in a stressful environment.

Technician Requirements:

 

Education

  • Successful completion of the ASCP, AMT or CLS accreditation program for medical technician plus an associate’s degree in a physical, or biological or medical technician from an accredited institution is required. Current CPR certification.

Experience

  • Six months experience working in laboratory or equivalent environment preferre

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to perform general phlebotomy procedures.
  • Ability to communicate written and verbal information to customers regarding appropriate specimen collection, transport, and test methodology. Able to interpret test results. Able to handle client service issues at all levels appropriately, courteously and effectively with a customer focus.
