Overview

Mid-Columbia Medical Center, in collaboration with Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU), is hiring two full-time board certified/board eligible Family Medicine physicians (1.0 FTE) to join the Family Medicine Team. Located in the beautiful Columbia River Gorge, one of America’s top recreation destinations, this opportunity is accompanied by a clinical faculty appointment in the OHSU School of Medicine in Portland, Oregon.

 

The Family Medicine Clinic is currently composed of a dynamic team of four physicians and five Advanced Practice Clinicians. Each physician and PA/NP functions as the primary care provider for an independent panel of patients, and each provider is paired with dedicated clinical staff. Working in a close-knit, collegial setting, providers of all disciplines are supported by one another, and personal and professional growth is fostered.

 

MCMC comprises a full-service 49-bed hospital as well as a network of clinics dedicated to specialty medicine and primary care. Family Medicine Providers deliver outpatient care at MCMC Family Medicine in The Dalles, OR, a member of MCMC’s outpatient clinics (MCOC). A certified patient-centered medical home, the clinic enjoys a close collaborative relationship with all of MCMC’s wide range of resources. Family Medicine Physicians in this practice offer ambulatory adult care, nursing home opportunities, pediatric care for children from birth to age 18, as well as covering a small number of inpatient general admissions and healthy newborns. Shared night call with the Pediatric practice of MCOC, currently at the frequency of 1:7. This call attends deliveries only when requested by the OB. There is telemedicine support from the neonatologists at OHSU if desired.

 

More complex or specialized care is completed in concert with OHSU in Portland, OR via our direct clinical relationship.

Responsibilities

Works independently and in collaboration with other providers to complete physical examinations, diagnosis, and treatment of both chronic and episodic disorders. Assigned principal responsibility for primary health care of patients. Seeks the expert opinion or advice of a specialists whenever the incumbent decides a case falls outside the scope authorized by policies and protocol.

 

The physician is responsible for the patient throughout the course of the treatment, provides the physical examination, the diagnosis, and the health care plan, determines when the patient has recovered, and releases the patient. The physician may refer the patient to physicians for consultation or to specialized health resources for treatment, but retains responsibility for clinical management as well as any subsequent modification.

Qualifications

Minimum Education, Training & Experience (includes licenses or certifications):

  • As required by licensure.
  • Current applicable state medical license required.
  • Board certified or eligible in Family Medicine    
  • Current certification dependent upon the specific position to include Basic Life Support (CPR).

 

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability of positive interpersonal and communication skills with colleagues, patients, families, physicians, and the community.
  • Requires critical thinking skills and decisive judgment. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Experience with using every data technology tool (e.g., e-mail, spreadsheets, Microsoft Office Suite, voicemail, internet/intranet to access, organize, and store job-related information).
  • Willingness and ability to expand and maintain clinical competence in the specialty field.
  • Experience with electronic health records. The Family Medicine Clinic is supported by EPIC electronic health record.
